Gear Junkies Anonymous
GearCheque is an unapologetic attempt to take something I am truly passionate about, and use it as an opportunity to help others, feeding my gear habit in the process. How can adventure gear be a passion? An addiction even? Honestly, if you’re asking that you might be lost. I have too many hobbies, too much gear, not enough storage space, and not enough time. I am a lawyer by day and a weekend warrior with pursuits that range from adventure racing and multisport events, with all of the trail running, bicycle riding, and paddling that that entails, to scuba diving, spearfishing, and hunting. I have a bag for every adventure.
Thanks to self-employment, I manage to balance a stressful (but rewarding) career with spending as much time in nature as I can. I am incredibly lucky to live where I live, with easy access to great trails for hiking and trail-running. A little further afield I have beautiful back-country to explore, via river, established trails and less worn paths. We have an amazing network of backcountry shelters which range in comfort significantly.
Some of my adventures can look like a bad episode of Survivor, but, most of them have a degree of comfort built in thanks to an epic camp-trailer I build from the bones of a trailer a builder had used to carry tools. It now carries a range of comforts including a roof top tent, fridge, espresso machine, kitchen sink, hot shower, and pizza oven. So much gear…
Because of my career, I gravitate to missions that are designed to move fast across country - fastpacking, bike packing, trail running, mountain biking, kayaking and packrafting get me into some amazing parts of the world. My gear demands are high. I am a self-confessed gear junkie hoping to find a way to support my habit and help other junkies in the process.
It is no secret that this website is designed to save you time and help me buy more gear. If there is one thing I am good at it’s choosing gear and finding great deals online. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. If you see a link on this website, it will take you to a product that if you purchase via that link I might recieve a small commission. I say “might” because it depends on the window of time from clicking the link to making the purchase. That in no way changes my advice on what to acquire, and it is of course your business where you acquire it and when. I’m forever grateful for those of you that support my passion for gear by buying via a GearCheque link.
